"Kakavi" - "fish pot" - on beach.

There are many utensils, implements, tools, etc, that are used in rural/ocean cultures like Kythera, which have a distinct name.

Some like "Kakavi", are Greek, but many others - are distinctly Kytherian, or used in a special way on Kythera.

From, Greek Cookbook, by Tess Mallos, (nee, Anastasia Calopades) which contains numerous superb photographs of food, and the settings in which it is grown, prepared and served.

This photograph, "Kakavi" - "fish pot" - on beach is from the first edition, 1976.

The most famous and influential Kytherian and Greek Cookbook by far.
It's publication had a profound influence not only on Greek cooks, but on Australian cooks as well. It altered the way Australians thought about food, and faciliated the shift from the Australian preference for bland English cuisine to - the eclectic European cuisine that Australians now take for granted. (The average Australian in the 1970's would probably have preferred to die rather than eat an olive, eggplant or zuchhini!)

The book contains numerous recipes, and the full-colour photographs are "works of art".

The book is used, and is a valuable resource, in Kytherian and Greek homes throughout Australia, and the world.
