This is my grand father: Panagiotis Theod. Leontsinis my mother's father from Keramoto Kythera. He went to USA sometime in the second half of 19th century sailing on a small kaiki from Alexandria Egypt together with some other compatriots, the number of which I do not know and it took them 6 months to reach America. All I know from my mother's words is that on the way they found themselves having no more drinking water and so they had to squeeze the kaik sails and drank. He went to St. Louis the "gate to the west" and from there he started working on laying the rail road tracks. He eventually reached San Francisco and became an American citizen in 1875. On his return to his home village Keramoto in Kythera he was immediately nicknamed "The American". His family thereafter were known as the Americanos family.

I am one of four daughters of Mary Combes/Coombes (Maiden name). Her parents were Anastasios & Spiridoula Combes/Coombes. They immigrated in 1924 on the 'Largs Bay'. They spent their first few years at Tenterfield with Anastasios' brother, George. George, the eldest of 4 brothers had first immigrated in 1912, and had owned the Paragon Cafe in Tenterfield. If you have any information on my family, I would be glad to hear about it!

My grandparents' (John and Helen Cassimatis) visit in 1953 from the US may have been the occasion for this picture. He is seated and bald with round glasses, holding a shotgun. She is in the center with a plume in her hat. Also pictured are Kyra Viola Torakis (behind two boys near front), and her sons Matthaio and Niko (back row).

I have tried to blow up the left side of this 1945 Detroit picnic to identify some of the people. In the back row, there are many familiar faces, but unknown names?? I know 2nd from the left is Emanual Georgopoulos. The 4th from the right is Mrs. Kapsanis. 3rd from the right is Helen Panaretos Gavriles(My Mother),2nd from the right is Stasa Nomecos (daughter of Aspasia), 1st on the right is Aspasia Panaretos Nomecos(wife of John Nomecos). Seated left to right is Chris Pappas, Mr. Toulis,Paul Galakatos(Peterson),Mrs. Despina Peterson(wife of Paul),Irene Megaloconomou Georgopoulos (wife of Theodore),Nick Galakatos (Peterson),John Nomicos,Theodore Georgopoulos, and just barely half of my Uncle John Demetrios Gavriles. In front of the group on a little riding/`rockin horse is myself.
I am adding this Detroit picture ,as there are many of the same people as in the Georgopoulos pictures. This is in 1945 at a "Tsirigitis" gathering in the Detrooit area. I am the little guy on the riding horse in front of all the adults sitting. I can identify probably only 1/3 of the people. I will try on the 2 blow-ups of this in the other pictures I am adding.
