The spring at Mitata has been used for irrigation for hundreds if not thousands of years, and ancient reports state that the water from Mitata was channeled down to Paliopoly - then Scandia - for the use of the trading port there. In the 1950s a large reservoir and washing area were built.

This studio portrait of the Pentopoulos family was taken around 1913. The portrait features Stamatia Pentopoulos (nee Marcellos) her husband Peter Pentopoulos (changed his name from Sklavos) and their two sons George and Anthony. They lived in the village Potamos on the island Kythera.
This is the first portrait of newly married Stamatia (nee Nikolasou) & Jim Aroney (Theodoropoulos) from the village Aronyiathika, Kythera. They eloped in Athens, Greece, in 1923 and then travelled to Australia. Initially they settled in Bundarra, N.S.W, where they ran a café and picture show.
Dimitri Aroney (Theodoropoulos) was born on Kythera, Greece in 1890 and died in N.S.W, Australia in 1991, aged 100 years. This portrait of him was taken when he undertook his military service in the Greek army during the Asia Minor War. He was around 25 years of age at the time this portrait was taken. Dimitri served in the Greek army between 1915 and 1921. After completing his military service he migrated to Australia, where he initially settled in Bundarra, N.S.W.
