Ayios Haralambos apo to spiti tou Menti

Ayios Haralambos from Mente's house.

Line drawing by the brilliant artist Lindsey ("Katharos") Cretha, sketched on his first visit to Karavas as a young man.

Lindsey now lives in Berry, South Of Sydney, in NSW, and is the Director of his own Design Company.

Nothing gives me more pleasure than pouring over Lindsey's art work - which should be introduced to a much wider audience - particularly Kytherian-Greek audience - than it has managed to reach to date.

Ayios Haralambos Karavas

Ayios Haralambos Karavas from a period about the 1950's.

Scaffolding around one of the houses beneath Ayios Haralambos might help us to date the vintage of this photograph.

Ayios Haralambos Karavas

Looking up from the valley to what most Karavites regard as the key "icon of the built environment" in Karavas, the magnificent Church of Ayios Haralambos.
This picture was taken in the 1970's, when most of the "sculess" - terraces of Karavas were still intact,

A great deal of time and effort was taken by Karavites to build these "sculless". Without them, the soil would have eroded away - and nothing would have grown there - including the olive trees.
