This biography is part of a collection from "Life in Australia" : Endowed with all the natural talents required to better himself, Mr. Antonios D. Iliopoulos, who is twenty two and who hails from Kythera, came to Australia in 1910. While still very young, he moved to Athens, where he worked for about two years, before moving to America. Moving thence to Australia, he began to engage in commercial activity, from which he has derived very satisfactory profits. Mr. Iliopoulos is one of the major founders of the large Greek company Anglo-American and very successfully manages one of their most important establishments. He is notable for his commercial sharpness of vision and farsightedness. Clear proof of the excellent character, the philanthropy and generosity of this young man is the fact that he has been a member of the Administrative Committee of the Greek Community of New South Wales for some time now. In Australia he is known by the name of Louison, a name that has earned great respect from the whole commercial world. This biography is part of a collection from "Life in Australia" published in 1916 by John Comino. It is an important book as it was one of the first Greek books published in Australia for the Greeks back in the homeland. If they needed any more convincing of the golden opportunities awaiting them in Australia, it probably helped create interest amongst young Kytherians and other Greeks. Each of the men portrayed in the book paid for the honour, which, considering their reputation for thriftiness, must have made the decision a hard one for many a Kytherian. The Kythera-Family.net team, with the support of the Nicolaus Aroney Trust and other generous sponsors, has undertaken to transcribe the entire book for the website and to translate it into English for the non-greek-speaking diaspora community. We hope to also produce a printed version of the translation of Life in Australia sometime in 2005. For valuable information about the historical background of the publication of Life in Australia, please read the entry by Hugh Gilchrist I ZOI EN AFSTRALLIA in the History, General History section.

Upon naturalization in 1914 this bloke said be was born in Arcadia, a claim confirmed by his mate Nick Carides of ‘Phalaisia’ in Arcadia. His brother Louis, his partner Soulos and close associates, the Carkagis (Karakarztis) Bros, were from Rizes, near Tripolis, in Arcadia. In time there were heaps of Rizeans running around the place, probably enticed to the new Arcadia by Peter Carkagis of Mullumbimby/Ballina/Manly who visited home 1916-21 and probably spread the word about decadent milkshakes made with full cream cow’s milk.
