Daily Examiner, Grafton Tim Howard 6th April 2011 The Notaras family has been both shocked and tickled pink this week, when their Saraton Theatre picked up the top gong at the Heritage Awards in Sydney. The theatre, which the family originally built in Grafton in 1926, was renovated and extended into a three-cinema complex and re-opened last October. The sons of the original builders, Angelo and Spiro Notaras who headed a family consortium, spared no expense in restoring the building to its former glory, while installing the latest cinema and sound equipment. Angelo attended the awards in the Westin Hotel in Martin Place, on Monday. Although surprised to win because of the calibre of his opposition, he knew the Saraton was “99.9%” in compliance with the heritage guidelines. The Notaras brothers brought their award back to Grafton on 7th April, where it was displayed at the cinema.
